Our Story

From Bondage to Freedom

For 28 years, Jeff Johnson was bound to drug addiction and criminal behavior. Three prison sentences. Countless near-death experiences. Rehabilitation centers that never stuck. Nothing seemed to bring an end to the destruction.

Then in the fall of 2013, Jeff came to the end of himself. He cried out to God — and something was different this time. That heart-cry caused something to shift. God touched him, and he hasn't been the same since.

"I truly just wanted to learn how to live without getting high so that I could get back to my welding truck. But God had a different plan. He always does — and they're always better than what we could ever imagine."

After graduating from Adult & Teen Challenge in Azle, Texas, Jeff and his wife Connie sold everything they owned to follow God's call. They served in Teen Challenge programs across South Carolina and Texas — Jeff as a vocational coordinator, Connie as a thrift store manager, mentor, and mother figure to young men in the program.

From the day God touched him, Jeff has chased after Him with his whole being. That fire — coupled with a deep love for the broken and struggling — is what gave birth to In His Grip Ministries.
